BUFFALO, N.Y. -- "La Vita en Volo," the Italian translation of  "Life in the Air: Surviving the New Culture of Air Travel," the 2001 book by Mark Gottdiener, Ph.D., professor of sociology at the University at Buffalo, has been published by Edizione Goliardiche (Milan).

The book, originally published by Rowman and Littlefield (Boulder, Colo.) examinesthe changes affecting airports and air space today, from overcrowding and abusive passengers to the extensive delays and cancellations and how travelers spend inordinately long periods of time while waiting to make their next connection.

The publication release event featured employees of Alitalia airlines who spoke about the relevance of the book to their experiences in flight.

This semester he is Visiting Professor of Urbanism at the Graduate School for Urban and Planning Studies, Helsinki University of Technology.
