School of Nursing to Cosponsor Holistic Health-Care Conference

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- A conference on holistic health care that incorporates the mind, spirit, and body in the practice of health care will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11, in the Sheraton Inn Buffalo Airport, 2040 Walden Ave., Cheektowaga.

The session, the Parish Nurse Programs of Western New York's annual conference, is co-sponsored by the University at Buffalo School of Nursing Continuing Education Program and Hospice Association.

The conference is targeted to clergy, nurses, physicians, social workers and those involved in health-care ministry.

Paul Hageman, associate professor at D'Youville College, will deliver the keynote speech on the stress aspects of being in ill health and/or being a care giver.

Other speakers include Karen Vaash of Roswell Park Cancer Institute, who will discuss the use of therapeutic touch and its application in holistic health care; Liza Marie Cuzydlo, president of Beyond Boundaries Wellness Centered Services, who will address the use of massage therapy; Patricia Bax of Patricia Bax Enterprises, who will discuss the uses of humor in health care, and Donald Schumacher of Hospice Buffalo, Inc., who will discuss circles of care and the incorporation of the mind, spirit, and body aspects of health care.

The conference will close with a presentation on the spirituality dimension of health care by Sister Donna Lord of Kenmore Mercy Hospital.

The registration fee for the conference is $60, which includes all program materials, lunch, and breaks.
