BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo School of Management was ranked in its highest position ever—No. 60—by U.S. News & World Report in its annual ranking of MBA programs.

The school is up six places from last year, and a total of 21 places over the past four years. Among public business schools, the UB School of Management is ranked No. 32.

“Our steady rise in this ranking is a strong reflection of the quality of our students and the caliber of our faculty,” says Paul Tesluk, professor and dean of the UB School of Management. “It’s also a ringing endorsement from the employers who hire our graduates and it highlights how our strong academic programs and innovative learning experiences prepare our graduates for success in the workplace.”

The UB School of Management is the only business school in the Buffalo Niagara region to be included in the U.S. News business school rankings.

More than 475 schools were surveyed for the ranking, which focuses on three major areas: quality assessment, placement success and student selectivity.

The quality assessment is worth 40% of the survey and includes a recruiter assessment by the companies that hire the school’s graduates and a peer evaluation by other B-school deans and directors.

Placement success, worth 35% of the ranking, is based on the graduates’ mean starting salary and the employment rate at graduation and three months afterward.

The final 25% of the ranking is a measure of how selective schools are in their admission criteria, including GMAT and GRE scores, undergraduate GPA and acceptance rate.

The MBA ranking is part of U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.” A number of other University at Buffalo graduate programs were ranked as well.

The UB School of Management is recognized for its emphasis on real-world learning, community and economic impact, and the global perspective of its faculty, students and alumni. The school also has been ranked by Bloomberg Businessweek, Forbes and U.S. News & World Report for the quality of its programs and the return on investment it provides its graduates.
