UB Regional Institute Goes 'Inside the Ballot Box' for 2008 Presidential Election in Western New York
03/30/09 The University at Buffalo Regional Institute has issued a detailed analysis of Western New York's voting patterns in the 2008 presidential election. Among the key findings are that the region's most populated areas -- urban and suburban -- voted for Barack Obama, although 85 percent of the region's municipalities voted for McCain. The region also voted more Democratic in 2008 compared to 2004, especially rural areas, while the region's rank of registered Republicans shrank.

UB Pumps $1.7 Billion Into the Economy
01/07/09 The University at Buffalo pumped $1.7 billion into the New York State and Western New York economies in fiscal year 2006-07, a figure that is expected to more than double to $3.6 billion by 2023-24, according to a new economic impact study prepared by the UB Regional Institute.

10/30/08 Canada is by far the United States' most important trading partner, with exports to our northern neighbor totaling more than those to Mexico, Japan and China combined. Yet federal policies to reinforce security without slowing trade have had mixed results, with some border regions easing bottlenecks more than others. These and other findings on the U.S.-Canada trade relationship are published in "Border Brief," a joint effort of the Regional Institute and the Border Policy Research Institute of Western Washington University.
