Materials science, electrochemical energy storage, batteries, hydrogen fuel cells, supercapacitators, catalysts, electrochemistry

Head shot of Gang Wu, University at Buffalo battery and fuel cell expert.

Gang Wu is an expert on electrochemistry and energy conversion and storage.

His lab develops high-performing catalysts and other materials for use in fuel cells, metal-air batteries and water electrolyzers that produce hydrogen fuel. Catalysts used in electrochemistry often contain precious metals such as platinum and iridium, and one focus of Wu’s work is on replacing these expensive elements with cheaper, earth-abundant metals.

Wu’s research aims to improve clean energy technologies and make them more affordable.
