An article in National Geographic news on the skyrocketing infant mortality rate among Tibetan macaques as a result of ecotourism in the Mount Huangshan Scenic Area in China quotes Carol Berman, professor of anthropology. "I think a lot more work needs to be done on how ecotourism impacts the animals," she said. "This is a very popular tourist site in China. Millions of people come to see the mountains, and tens of thousands each rear come to look at the monkeys. They might nave on a busy day three or four viewings of the monkeys, and there might be more than a hundred people watching them at once." Go to article.
