The International Student Advisory Council (ISAC) brings together a diverse representation of international students at the University at Buffalo to communicate the needs and challenges of international students.

What is ISAC?

The International Student Advisory Council brings together a diverse representation of international students at the University at Buffalo to communicate the needs and challenges of international students. Board members are volunteer student leaders who provide a direct line of communication between international students, International Student Services, and campus partners in support of the international student experience at the University at Buffalo.

International Student Advisory Council members:

  • Serve as an accessible and visible resource for the international student community.
  • Provide guidance, ideas, and advice to ISS on student inclusion, engagement, communication strategies, etc.
  • Share international student stories and communicate feedback and concerns.
  • Advocate for international students regarding issues and concerns related to their experiences as UB.
  • Engage with the international student community at ISS events.

ISAC Member Eligibility and Guidelines

Eligibility and Qualifications

All Students

  • International student studying at UB on an F-1 or J-1 visa.
  • At least one year of academic study left in current degree level.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Be reliable, responsible, and flexible.
  • Actively participate and show enthusiasm at programs and events.

Undergraduate Students

  • Completed at least two academic semesters at UB with a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Graduate Students

  • Completed at least one academic semester at UB with a minimum 3.5 GPA.

Guidelines

All ISAC members must agree to the following guidelines:

  • Be actively engaged in and fully participate in ISAC meeting and activities.
  • Serve for at least one full academic semester.
  • Attend the ISAC Member on-boarding training.
  • Attend meetings: 3 full council meetings and 3 sub-committee meetings each semester.
  • Assist with Programming: At least one ISAC program/event per semester.

ISAC Member Application Process

  • Complete the ISAC Member Application.
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from a UB faculty or staff member, or a current ISAC member (recommended, but not required).
  • Selected candidates will complete a group interview.
  • New ISAC members are selected and notified.

UB faculty and staff are encouraged to recommend qualified international students to apply to serve on the International Student Advisory Council.

Applications are being accepted for the 2024/25 Academic Year.
