TRAVL is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the research and training of human interaction with transportation systems using immersive simulations. Its headquarters are located in room 102 of Ketter Hall alongside the Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering department and is a featured laboratory within the Stephen Still Institute for Sustainable Transportation and Logistics (ISTL).

The new space adds an additional 600 square feet to the laboratory’s overall footprint. The expanded lab features a dedicated space for a pedestrian and bicycle simulation and another for a driving simulator. It also includes soundproofed walls to optimize room acoustics along with a large screen greeting and presentation area with guest seating for 20.

“The expansion of TRAVL opens many new opportunities for us to study human interactions with transportation infrastructure and technology. With dedicated and isolated space for each simulator, we can simultaneously test multiple people within the same simulation environment and study their interactions,” says Austin Angulo, founder of TRAVL and assistant professor in the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. “We can have a participant in our high-fidelity driving simulator drive past another participant bicycling in the bike lane in our bicycle simulator and then encounter another participant walking across a mid-block crosswalk in our pedestrian simulator.”

TRAVL will be hosting a series of Open House events for the fall 2025 and spring 2026 semesters.
