Prehealth Committee Reapplicants

• If you would like your new letter packet to be submitted by June 1, ALL materials (including the addendum application, reapplicant fee, and new/updated recommendations) must be received by May 1. All others after that will be completed and submitted in the order that they come in. 
• Remember that letters coming in later (within reason) do not negatively impact your application so it's okay if you need more time. We encourage you to submit your application while waiting for any final letters to arrive. As a comparison, recall that Committee packets were previously always submitted at the very end of July.
• Addendum applications must be submitted no later than August 15, and release forms and reapplicant fees must be submitted by September 1. New/updated recommendation letters should also be received by September 1.
  
• If it has been more than five years since you originally came through the Committee process, we are unable to provide an addendum for you. It would be a disservice to your application to use materials that are dated beyond five years. Please contact a Prehealth Advisor so we can discuss your options and see how we are able to best support you with your application. 
• As with your original request to secure a Committee letter, the Office of Prehealth Advising and the Prehealth Committee retains the right to contact the Office of Student Conduct and Advocacy to run a disciplinary review on you, as well as to contact the Office of Academic Integrity for any issues such as plagiarism or cheating, if you request an addendum or update to your original Committee letter.
  

• Complete the Addendum Application, which provides our office with a summary of any new/continuing academic work, clinical work, research, community service, etc. 
• Professional schools expect at least some updated or new letters as part of a re-applicant letter packet. At least ONE letter, if not more, should be new or refreshed/updated from a previous year(s). Secure updated letters that reflect any relevant activities since the last application and arrange to have them sent to our letter collection as per the directions further down on this page. This way, your packet remains timely to reflect all you have done to continue to make yourself a more competitive applicant.
• Make sure you also indicate on your addendum application what letters from your previous packet you wish to retain. Only letters included on your application will be submitted so it needs to be accurate.
• Complete a new release form found on our Sending Your Packet page once you have your applicant numbers/letter ID numbers.
• Use the information provided by our office to correctly complete the evaluation section for your professional health school application.
• Pay a $10 re-applicant fee. If you request early access to our letter collection, you'll receive the e-pay link at that time. If you have not requested this, then within a few days after submission of your addendum application, you will be sent an email with the e-pay link. 

Prehealth Committee reapplicants can contact Amanda at alp25@buffalo.edu starting January 15, 2026 or anytime after to let us know of your intent. While the addendum process will open later in the semester, we can open your access to our letter vendor, PrivateFolio, earlier. We will send you a link to pay the $10 addendum fee. Within a week of your fee payment, you will either receive a special link to access a UB PrivateFolio account (for those who never opened it before), or we will reactivate your account (if you had one through us previously), and you should use the directions on this page.

• We will send you the link to the UB PrivateFolio account.
• Enter your information, choose your password, and press Submit to create your account.
• You will receive a confirmation email. Click on the confirmation link in this email and then log into your account using your email address and password.
• !!! IMPORTANT !!! You will be asked to choose your account term. Choose the option for one free year. If you pay PrivateFolio directly, we cannot refund you.  
• If you had an account with us previously, once we recieve your addendum fee, we'll renew your account with PrivateFolio. 

• Under the Recommendation Letters section, click on Request a Letter.
• Fill in the name and email address for your letter writer.
• You will provide a Document Title for this letter. Please title it with the recommender’s name and the year you are requesting it. For example, Dr. Jane Doe 2026 or John Doe 2026.
• You have the option of putting in a due date. Should you choose to do so, please make sure you are choosing a reasonable date that you have previously discussed with your letter writer.
• You have the option of modifying the text of the request that will go to your letter writer. We recommend personalizing it. This is also a good place to remind recommenders that letters should be signed, dated, and either on letterhead or include all contact information. Additionally, you can add the link to our web page with information for letter writers.
• Check off the box indicating that the letter must be signed.
• Check off the box indicating that you are waiving your right to access the confidential letter. Professional schools strongly prefer confidential letters.
• When everything is ready, click submit and your letter writer will receive the request in their email.
• !!! IMPORTANT !!! If we already have letters on file for you from a previous cycle that were submitted either through veCollect or via email, we can add them to your PrivateFolio account. Please contact Amanda at alp25@buffalo.edu for additional information. 

• Once your recommender successfully uploads their letter to PrivateFolio, you will receive a confirmation email.
• However, consider your letter to be in “quarantine” for a week so we can screen it to make sure it meets all guidelines.
• If the letter is missing anything, we will contact you so that you can ask your letter writer to resubmit it.
• If you don’t hear from us after a week, you can assume your letter was acceptable. Please understand that we are unable to send confirmation for every letter. 

• You do not need to use any other functionalities in PrivateFolio (deliveries, portfolio, referrals, etc).
• We will handle letter packet deliveries to applications.
• Do not request delivery through PrivateFolio or they will charge you. We are unable to refund any money paid directly to PrivateFolio.
• Prehealth will send you directions on how to fill out the evaluation section of your application. Be sure to follow them exactly. 
• Once we have all of the letters that you listed on your addendum application and you have completed the evaluation section of your application, your final step will be to fill out our release form for each application you are submitting.
• If you need to make any changes to your letter list after submitting your addendum application, please email Amanda at alp25@buffalo.edu to make these changes.
