Information for Departments Onboarding Postdoctoral Scholars

Providing new postdocs tools and information is empowering and can lead to success. An early start to onboarding a postdoc helps a new postdoc use university services before the first day.

Sending your new eligible postdoc a welcome packet provides the tools needed to start utilizing the services UB has to offer. You must request a new hire packet be sent to the postdoc before their paperwork is processed.

Timely submission of a new postdoc's paperwork allows the postdoc to sign up for orientations, decreases the delay in receipt of their first paycheck, and begins the employee's career here at UB.

Find out how responsibilities are assigned in your department for preparing for a new postdoc's arrival. The goal is to make your postdoc feel welcome and easily fit into your department.

Make orientation arrangements for new postdocs to ease them into their new positions and help them develop and understand the university's mission, goals and values.

There is a wealth of information and resources available to postdocs. See some recommendations provided by Human Resources.

Visit the Onboarding New Employees page on the Administrative Services Gateway for more information.
