Professionalization Opportunities

One of NeMLA’s core missions is to help professionalize our junior scholars on various aspects of the profession, including teaching, publishing, and the job search. We do everything in our power to give graduate students and early-career professionals the necessary resources to promote their careers and to foster collaborations with mentors that often extend beyond the convention. To that end, we connect mentees with senior faculty in their field as well as with convention exhibitors who offer their guidance and expertise in

  • preparing job market materials and book proposals
  • practicing mock interviews and book pitches
  • writing articles for publication
  • and offering advice on teaching and the profession

We offer these services in a range of formats from workships and a Job Clinic that take place at the convention to extended mentoring programs that last throughout the year.
