The State University's commitment to serve underprepared students more extensively resulted in the creation in 1966, of four Urban Centers. The Centers, located in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Albany, and Buffalo, were funded by the Governor and the New York State Legislature, to provide occupational training and college preparatory programs.
The Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center offers year round academic support to adult learners in Western New York. Our instructors are dedicated to providing hands-on learning in small classrooms.

New York State has selected a new high school equivalency test called the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) to replace the General Educational Development (GED).
