Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars Kennan Institute's James H. Billington Fellow

The Kennan Institute is the premier U.S. center for advanced research on Russia and Eurasia and the oldest and largest regional program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. The Billington Fellowship supports early-career scholars conducting research on Russian history and culture.

Katherine Zubovich

Department of History

Assistant professor Katherine Zubovich, PhD, is a historian of Russia and the former USSR. Her first book, “Moscow Monumental: Soviet Skyscrapers and Urban Life in Stalin’s Capital,” was shortlisted for the 2021 Pushkin House Russian Book Prize and named one of Foreign Affairs Best Books of 2021. Her current research on the Soviet Institute of Pictorial Statistics places Soviet data visualization in international context to show how modern states addressed challenges of mass communication in the twentieth century. During the 2021-2022 academic year, Zubovich was a James H. Billington Fellow at the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, which supports advanced research on Russia and Eurasia.
