Scholarships and awards help anthropology students pursue research, fieldwork and graduate study without added financial stress. Funding opportunities change throughout the year, so students are encouraged to check this page regularly and apply when eligible.

Departmental awards and scholarships

These opportunities are administered or coordinated through the Department of Anthropology. Deadlines are firm and materials must be submitted on time.

Lambda Alpha Student Award

Submission deadline: March 1

Each year, the Department of Anthropology may nominate one graduating senior for a Lambda Alpha National Scholarship. This award supports students who plan to pursue graduate study in anthropology.

Eligibility highlights:

  • Anthropology major
  • Graduating senior
  • Intention to attend graduate school in anthropology

Award details:

  • Scholarship funds support graduate education expenses
  • Funds are released after proof of graduate school registration
  • The award must be claimed by August

Daniel H. Weiskotten Scholarship Fund

Application deadline: April 4

William M. Beauchamp Chapter, New York State Archaeological Association
This scholarship supports students planning careers in archaeology or museology.

Award includes:

  • $1,500 scholarship
  • One-year membership in the New York State Archaeological Association

Eligibility highlights:

  • New York State resident
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate anthropology or history program at a New York State institution
  • Completed at least 30 credit hours
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Interest in archaeology or museology

Application materials include:

  • Transcript showing a B average or higher
  • Financial need documentation
  • Statement describing archaeological experience, financial need and career goals
  • Recommendation from a professional archaeologist

Applications must be postmarked by April 4.

Every year, several awards are made available to undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences, including awards specifically designated for graduates of Buffalo Public High Schools.

University Scholarships

Opportunities for Undergraduate Study

There are thousands of university, national and international-level awards available to fund your undergraduate education. The Office of Fellowships and Scholarships will help you find an opportunity that fits you.

Undergraduate Merit Scholarships

At UB, we believe exceptional effort deserves exceptional recognition. Our undergraduate merit scholarships are designed to support high-achieving students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential and creative or professional talent.

Honors College Scholarships

The Honors College offers three distinct scholarship awards: Presidential Scholarships and the Millonzi Distinguished Honors Scholarship. In addition, Honors students may be eligible for the Provost Scholarship, awarded by the Office of Admissions.

International Admissions Flagship Scholarships

The University at Buffalo offers scholarships in varying amounts to qualified incoming international first-year/first-time students. Scholarship awards vary and are renewable with good academic standing. The Flagship Scholarship may be combined with other UB scholarships.

Fellowships and scholarships are among the most valuable forms of aid you can receive and are designed to support students who have exceptional academic records and potential.

Experience shows that students and families who take the time to understand their options benefit by receiving the maximum amount of eligible aid. The UB Financial Aid team is ready and willing to provide assistance as you navigate this process. 

The Office of Student Accounts

The Office of Student Accounts provides up-to-date information on tuition and fees by semester. You can also receive walk-in assistance Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the Student Response Center, 1 Capen, North Campus.
