Dr. John Zahorjan Student Scholarship Fund

Production management students who apply academic lessons to practice receive scholarships through this fund.

Established in 2000 by the son of the late Dr. John Zahorjan, this fund supports engineering students who are eager to apply what they've learned in the classroom. Preference is given to students wishing to pursue the Master of Engineering in Engineering Management concentration in Production Management.

“My father's enjoyment of life came from helping others,” Zahorjan said. “That I have the great and unusual fortune to possess the means and the desire to create this lasting shadow of my father is due entirely to the man he was, and so in a very real sense it is he himself reaching out.”

After retiring as vice president of operations at Fisher-Price, Dr. Zahorjan began an extensive career as a consultant and a faculty member at UB. In addition to teaching, Zahorjan ran the internship program for undergraduates in industrial engineering, and helped create The Center for Industrial Effectiveness (TCIE) at UB.

Dr. Zahorjan got immense pleasure from working with students. “I find that students,” he once said, “are generally better than they know they are, and I want to prove it to them.”
