Short Term Experiences in Global Health Fund

Support medical mission work around the globe through this fund.

The Short Term Experiences in Global Health Fund provides critical financial support for international medical mission trips and experiences.

These student volunters typically provide care in rural areas that have limited resources and fragmented healthcare. Through these experiences, students learn how to provide culturally-competent care in a global healthcare setting, including working in an interdisciplinary team environment, setting up “mobile” pharmacies and clinics, dispensing medications, counseling patients, and assisting providers with medication selection. These experiences not only give them hands-on training, but teach a level of compassion and patient care that cannot be learned in a classroom. 

The fund helps offset travel expenses for students, and send them with enough medical supplies to treat all of those in need that they encounter.

  • UB CIGBS Announces Stop Diabetes Progression, a New Global Community Health Site Initiative

    The University at Buffalo (UB) Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences (CIGBS) has announced plans to launch, Stop Diabetes Progression, a new health initiative, focusing on the creation of community-based education networks in Western New York, Jamaica and Zimbabwe to engage individuals with pre-diabetes and those with an established diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. The goal of this new initiative is to stop the progression of the disease for both groups.
  • UB Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences receives NIH funding for Cloud-based Viral Surveillance Research Training Program in Jamaica

    The Center for Integrated Global Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (UB), State University of New York (SUNY) has received funding to expand its Global Infectious Diseases (GID) Research Training Program. The GID is supported by the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training that will lead to capacity building in Jamaica through UB/SUNY and the University of the West Indies (UWI) collaboration. Importantly, this new funding includes CTIS, a key cloud project implementation partner, and a women-owned small business with expertise in providing informatics solutions for clinical trials and research for over 30 years.
  • Polischuk appointed Director of Practice Labs in the Department of Pharmacy Practice

    Emily Polischuk, PharmD, has been appointed Director of Practice Labs in the Division of Education and Teaching Innovation (ETI) in the Department of Pharmacy Practice, effective May 29. She will also hold academic rank as a clinical assistant professor.

    Nicholas Fusco, PharmD '10, division head, Division of Education and Teaching Innovation and clinical associate professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, has been inducted as a Distinguished Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) and is a recipient of a 2023 American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant (SOTL).
  • Clark receives NYSCHP New Practitioner Award for 2023

    Collin Clark, PharmD, clinical assistant professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is the recipient of the New York State Council of Health-system Pharmacists (NYSCHP) New Practitioner Award for 2023.
  • Katche appointed clinical assistant professor in the Division of Outcomes and Practice Advancement

    Christ Ange (Angel) Katche, PharmD ’19, MBA ’19, BCACP, will join University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS) faculty in July as a clinical assistant professor in the Division of Outcomes and Practice Advancement, Department of Pharmacy Practice. In this role, her primary responsibility will be to coordinate and teach topics in ambulatory care and business, engage in community and global health initiatives, and maintain an experiential training site and research program in ambulatory care pharmacy practice.
