Asia Research Institute Faculty Grants

Overview

The UB Asia Research Institute (ARI) offers research grants of up to $3,000 on a competitive basis to support scholarly research or creative work related to Asia and Asian diasporas. Funds can support research travel; purchase and collection of data; subvention or other publication expenses; and student research assistants. 

Grants do not provide funding for permanent equipment, software, conference travel, office supplies, or faculty or staff salary. Funds normally must be expended within one calendar year of grant award notification.

Eligibility

Priority is given to faculty affiliates of the Asia Research Institute, including members who are tenure-track, clinical or research faculty at UB.

Application Materials

To apply for a grant, please submit the following:

  • A completed application on the submission site, to include:
    • Project title                                                                                          
    • Your name, title, departmental affiliation, and contact information   
    • Project start and end dates
  • A research proposal of no more than 500 words 
  • An itemized budget for the funding request and a budget justification
  • Your CV (preferably no longer than five pages)
  • If applicable, IRB approval or proof of IRB application

Deadline and Submission

Applicants must submit all required documents as separate files (PDF or WORD). Grants are awarded once a year.

The next application deadline is 5:00 PM on January 31, 2024.

Evaluation Procedure

Applications will be evaluated by a UB faculty committee convened by ARI. Applicants will be notified of their funding decision normally within a month of the submission deadline.

Summary Report

The awardee is required to submit a summary report of no more than 500 words within a month of the conclusion of the project. The summary report should be submitted to the Asia Research Institute at asiainstitute@buffalo.edu. Failure to submit the summary report in time may make the awardee ineligible for future ARI grants.
