Materials characterization laboratory

The Furnas Hall Materials Characterization Laboratory lets you conduct cost-effective analysis and characterization of a wide range of materials. With four research bays and nearly 1,700 square feet of space, this lab provides the resources needed to analyze liquid, powder, surface and bulk materials.

Availability

The Furnas Hall Materials Characterization Laboratory is available for shared use by:

  • UB students
  • UB faculty
  • Researchers at other academic institutions
  • Government
  • Industry

Technical capabilities

  • Microscopy (SEMs & optical microscopes located in EE Cleanroom)
  • Metrology (SEMs, optical microscopes, ellipsometer, profilometer located in EE Cleanroom)
  • Sample preparation
  • Thermal processing & analysis (DSC, DSC/TGA)
  • X-ray diffraction (XRD)

Fees are charged on an hourly basis.
