The Center for Excellence in Writing’s Fall 2026 initiative: The Reading Writer.
Reading is an integral part of the academic writing process and one of the most powerful vehicles for growth and transformation. We cannot let hustle culture and technological advancements erode our reading capacities. Here's what we're doing this semester to get in the spirit of reading:
1. Enhanced professional development to assure that our consultants can help you to make connections between your reading and writing processes.
2. Reading Discos! A fun community event to share what we are reading and read together. Wednesdays at 12pm – 1pm 9/16, 10/14, and 11/18.
3. Workshops:
Reading Strategies: Explore strategies to manage your workload and to read with purpose to promote learning, success and wellbeing. Wednesday 9/21 from 4pm – 5:20 in 17 Norton.
Critical Reading to Critical Writing: The journey to rigorous writing starts with reading. This workshop will help you make that connection with precision and clarity. Thursday 10/22 from 4pm – 5:20 in 17 Norton.
4. Reading Groups: Mondays (9/21, 10/19, and 10/26) from 1pm to 2pm in 17 Norton (students, faculty and staff invited––registration required), we will get together to discuss The Struggle You Can’t See: Experiences of Neurodivergent and Invisibly Disabled Students in Higher Education by Ash Lierman.
