Cleanroom Fundamentals and Semiconductor Technologies is a nine-hour online course from the University at Buffalo that introduces the fundamentals of silicon-based semiconductor fabrication and cleanroom operations. The course covers key topics, including transistor behavior, cleanroom design principles, semiconductor materials, vacuum science, thin-film deposition (PVD and CVD), doping, thermal oxidation, wet and dry etching, and photolithography. It also includes a virtual hands-on lab experience, providing practical exposure to wafer processing, pattern transfer, and photoresist removal, bridging theoretical concepts with real-world semiconductor manufacturing practices.
Taught by Jeff Salzmann, Assistant Professor of Research, with over 30+ years of semiconductor and facility experience.
