Open Studio gives you time and space to move your way in the Dance Studio at 75 Broadview Arena.

There is no class to follow and no instructor leading the room. Your time is your own.

Using Open Studio

Open Studio provides drop-in access to the Dance Studio during designated recreational hours. There is no registration, and you may arrive or leave at any time during the program.

Use the studio at your own pace, whether you stop in briefly between classes or stay for a longer practice session. No dance experience is required.

Open Studio is self-directed recreational time, not an instructor-led class. Space is available on a first come, first served basis and cannot be reserved for private or exclusive use.

The space is available for self-directed, movement-based activities such as:
  • Dance and choreography practice
  • Stretching and mobility work
  • Movement skills and technique
  • Independent or group rehearsal
  • Personal movement-based workouts

Open Studio is available during the following hours:

Monday 1 PM - 4 PM
Tuesday 11 AM - 2 PM
Wednesday 1 PM - 3 PM
Thursday 11 AM - 2 PM
Friday 1 PM - 4 PM
Saturday N/A
Sunday 11 AM - 4:45 PM

Access

Open Studio is available to UB students and REC Members with a valid UB Recreation membership during scheduled program hours.

A valid UB ID or Recreation membership card is required for entry.

Open Studio is a shared recreational space. Access may be limited when the Dance Studio reaches capacity.

Location

Open Studio takes place in the Dance Studio, 75 Broadview Arena, on UB's North Campus.

The Dance Studio provides an open environment specifically designed for movement-based activities.

Community Standards

Our REC Programming is built on shared respect. Every participant plays a part in creating a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment.

Participants help by:

  • Treat participants and Recreation staff with kindness and respect.
  • Share mirrors and floor space, using only the space needed to practice safely.
  • Remain aware of others and give them enough room to move comfortably.
  • Keep bags, clothing, bottles and other belongings out of movement areas, entrances, exits and walkways.
  • Use personal headphones for music or audio. Speakers are not permitted during Open Studio.
  • Use studio equipment and furnishings only as intended and return shared items after use.
  • Bring only covered beverages into the studio. Food is not permitted.
  • Leave the studio ready for the next person.
  • Report damaged equipment, spills or safety concerns to Recreation staff.
  • Follow posted facility policies and directions from Recreation staff.

Open Studio is first come, first served and cannot be reserved. Individuals and groups may practice together, but no one may claim an area for exclusive use.

Harassment, discrimination, unsafe behavior and intentionally disruptive conduct are not permitted.

UB Recreation is not responsible for lost, stolen or unattended personal belongings.
