Live Science spoke to John Crassidis about how scientists are developing a real-life tractor beam, with the goal of pulling defunct satellites out of geostationary orbit to alleviate the space junk problem. Crassidis, who is not involved in the project, said: "Their technology is still in the infancy stage. But I am fairly confident it will work." He added: "What is today's science fiction could be tomorrow's reality.”
