  • Significant Changes Announced for Residency Programs

    The University at Buffalo is announcing significant changes in two of the 64 residency training programs that it operates jointly with area hospitals. The formerly suspended training program in otolaryngology (a specialty focusing on the ear, nose and throat) is being reestablished and the residency in radiology will be closed.

    The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present Zodiaque Dance Company: "8-Dance Is," Oct. 18-22 in the Drama Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. Performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Oct. 18-21 and 2 p.m. Oct. 21 and 22.
  • UB Anderson Gallery to Host Lecture by Smithsonian Curator Harry Rand in conjunction with the exhibition "John Hultberg: Vanishing Point"

    "John Hultberg: Vanishing Point," an exhibition in UB Anderson Gallery highlighting 21 paintings and 14 graphic works from the University at Buffalo's permanent collection, will be celebrated on Sept. 29 with a reception from 6-8 p.m. and lecture at 7:30 p.m.

    The Department of Theatre and Dance at the University at Buffalo will present "The Card Index Scattered" at 8 p.m. Oct. 25-28 in the Black Box Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North (Amherst) Campus. Performances also will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 28 and 29.
  • The New Cars to Perform Nov. 13 in CFA

    The Center for the Arts at the University at Buffalo will present The New Cars on Nov. 13 at 8 p.m. in the Mainstage Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the UB North Amherst Campus. Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Sept. 23.
  • Medical Student Training Looks at Cultural Differences

    Physicians treating refugees and immigrant populations face a minefield of potential cultural gaffes. They should not touch a Muslim man during the initial interview. A nod of the head may mean "no" instead of "yes" if the patient is Albanian. Among Latinos, the head of the family, not the patient, makes treatment decisions. A $604,000 federal grant from the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to the University at Buffalo will help new and experienced physicians avoid such missteps.
