Joanne Song McLaughlin is a labor economist.

Her research focuses on the impact of public policies related to the labor market. She is interested in understanding the role of these policies during important transitions such as entrance into the labor market and retirement.

Among other topics, McLaughlin has studied health insurance mandates, age discrimination in employment, barriers to retirement, and the anticipated effects that artificial intelligence will have on the labor force in the near future.

The goal of her work is to find empirical evidence that will help policymakers design more effective public policies.
