Published February 15, 2023

As you know, we continue to prepare for the launch of Brightspace, our new learning management system, in Fall 2023. Beginning February 15, all instructors, staff and students will have access to Brightspace by visiting ublearns.buffalo.edu and clicking the Go to Brightspace link on the login page or the Help and Updates page inside Blackboard.

Please remember all Spring 2023 courses will be delivered using Blackboard only. Those teaching in Summer 2023 only may choose to use Blackboard or Brightspace; for Fall 2023 and onward, all courses will be in Brightspace.

When logging into Brightspace, instructors will see the following courses:

  • An exploration course (blank course shell for you to explore Brightspace’s features and tools).
  • Migrated Blackboard courses (content and structure only; no student data) from Spring 2022, Summer 2022, Fall 2022 and Winter 2023 for your review and reuse.
  • For those teaching in Summer 2023, you will also find course shell(s) available for each course where you are listed as the primary instructor.
    • If you plan to use Blackboard for Summer 2023, you do not need to do anything with the course(s) in Brightspace. Instead, enable your Blackboard courses using the Class Setup Tool and follow the same course preparation process in Blackboard that you have used in past semesters.
    • If you plan to use Brightspace for Summer 2023, we have created documentation for setting up Summer 2023 courses in Brightspace.

Training sessions have been scheduled throughout Spring 2023 to address each main area of functionality within Brightspace. Please register today to ensure you are prepared to begin developing your courses in Brightspace. You can access the full schedule and the registration form on the LMS Transition website.
