OIX or EDI? How We Are Different

UB is fortunate to have two offices dedicated to equity and inclusion. Although their names are similar, their missions are distinct. Both offices are concerned with diversity and fairness, but each office works to achieve these goals in a different way.  The chart below highlights our differences.

Office of Inclusive Excellence

CREATED TO:

Focus on strategic collaborations, and create policies that provide solutions to equity and inclusion challenges.                                                    

CHARACTERIZED AS:

“Inclusive Excellence”. Leverages diversity to attain the highest level of quality in research, teaching and service.                                                                                  

TASKS:

Takes on an overview of equity and inclusion on campus

Works to strategically intervene in university processes to enhance equity and inclusion in all UB operations

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

CREATED TO:

Ensure compliance with policies covering discrimination, harassment, accommodations, equal opportunity and child protection.

CHARACTERIZED AS:

“Institutional Equity”. Upholds UB's commitment to equal opportunity, and to work and learning environments free from harassment and discrimination.

TASKS:

Provides services related to managing diversity (e.g., consultation for students, employees, supervisors, managers and administrators)

Reports diversity statistics to federal regulators

Handles reports of discrimination

Ensures UB’s compliance with governmental regulations
