Local research, partnership, and educational opportunities

The mandate of the Community for Global Health Equity is to address health equity in low and middle income countries globally; additionally, our work is also concerned with the health and well-being of the local refugee community in Western New York. Students who would like to pursue their global health equity interests through working on behalf of the local refugee community can explore a variety of research opportunities with the Partnership for Public Good (PPG).

PPG is a community-based think tank that provides research and advocacy support to over 260 partner organizations, including many with a focus on immigrant and refugee populations, such as ACCESS of WNY, Burmese Community Support Center, Burmese Community Services, Catholic Charities, Jericho Road, Jewish Family Services, Journey’s End Refugee Services, International Institute of Buffalo, and the UB SSW Immigrant Refugee Research Institute. As the PPG furnishes these and other local organizations with research about Buffalo Niagara, it has an ongoing need for skilled researchers, writers, policy analysts, and planners.

One of many opportunities for UB students with PPG is the possibility of contributing to its online hub, “the Buffalo Commons,” which includes a digital library of action-oriented research about Western New York, and a set of tools that enable community groups and researchers to connect and work together. All students selected for volunteer positions with PPG help fulfill vital components of PPG’s mission: conducting research, gathering and compiling data, drafting briefs, and preparing position papers.
