Course-based student researcher

Appropriate for: Graduate students and advanced undergraduates from a variety of disciplines who are searching for topics related to community development and public policy in order to satisfy UB course requirements

Description of Opportunity: This is a great option for graduate students and advanced undergraduates across the university seeking topics related to community development and public policy in order to satisfy UB course requirements.

Students interested in this opportunity should contact PPG directly, briefly describe the class and assignment for which they need a topic, and request a related “assignment”: an introduction to a particular agency that has an unmet need for Buffalo-based research.

Previous Student Researchers have successfully turned PPG assignments into term papers and Master’s theses. In addition to using this opportunity as a means to identify relevant research topics for UB assignments, PPG Student Researchers receive the added benefits of being able to make a meaningful contribution to the local community while also gaining valuable, real world work experience working for a local agency.

To apply: Contact sam@ppgbuffalo.org. In your email, please include the class and assignment for which you need a topic related to community development and public policy and describe a few areas of research that would be interesting to you. Also make sure to describe how quickly you need to find a research area (of course, overnight is not going to be possible!), Keep in mind that the quality of email you write is important: your writing will be used to help determine if you have the professional skills that PPG’s partners require.
