Central Sterilization Technicians prepare, sterilize, install, or clean laboratory or healthcare equipment. They may perform routine laboratory tasks and operate or inspect equipment.

Curriculum Overview

The program will address various topics related to the cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of patient equipment. In addition, it will assist the student in understanding the basic hard skills necessary to provide a safe product for patient use.

You will learn the basics of sterile processing including:

  • Disinfection Processes
  • Processing Patient Care Equipment
  • Anatomy / Physiology
  • Microbiology
  • Infection Prevention
  • Preparation & Packaging of Instruments and Specialty Devices
  • Types of Surgical Instruments and specialty devices
  • Sterilization
  • Inventory Control, storage & distribution
  • Sterile Storage
