Graduating Class (Year): 2021

What you are up to now?

I am working as a graphic designer, as well as a news reporter, for Rhythm Media Group Inc. in San Francisco.

What led you into arts management?

At the beginning, it was a question that drove me.  I was curious to know how a show, an exhibition, a gallery, a museum, a theatre...  any kind of art, could operate and make money.  I came to the Program to find answers.

Most memorable experience in the Program?

The most memorable experience in the Program was the trip to Washington D.C. in 2020. I never thought that as a foreigner I would have the opportunity to walk into the office of an American senator and to know how to ask for support . The whole event and meeting was a totally new experience to me. I met so many organizations which focus on society, arts, humanities and culture. Those groups are so active and passionate and opened my eyes. I knew at that moment that art management included so much more than I had ever imagined.

What do you wish you knew then that you know now?

I‘ve learned and experienced a lot! Arts Management is not just about arts, it's about the world and the people that make and enjoy them. During the program, I had many opportunities to read materials that looked at a given topic from different perspectives. It stretched my limits and gave me a new understanding. This perspective has had such a positive impact on my current work and life.

Advice for current/prospective students?

Take time to understand the reading list in every course (I know it is really hard for international students), but try your best!Try to participate in every activity because these will become happy memories for you! And go after work experience while in the States.  While an H1B visa might not work, there is CPT, OPT, and other visa categories for international students to continue to study and grow in the US!
