The Buffalo News reports UB Archaeological Survey, in partnership with the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor, begins a dig at the historic Michigan Street Baptist Church on Friday, September 17. Built by the Black community in the mid-1800s, the church served as a stop on the Underground Railroad and as a site for abolitionist activity.
Through Community Archaeology Days programming, the public is invited to the site to view the dig and learn about the history of the Michigan Street Baptist Church during open event days in September. Visit the Community Archaeology Days event page for further details.
