Lauren Schroeder, postdoctoral associate in the Buffalo Human Evolution Morphology lab under the direction of Noreen von Cramon-Taubadel, is cited as a co-author on the paper about Homo naledi, a previously unknown human species discovered from the “Rising Star” project at the Dinaledi site in South Africa. The discovery has been featured in The New York Times, National Geographic and CNN. On September 16 PBS/National Geographic will air a documentary describing the excavation project and the analysis of the remains, which features Schroeder as a member of the analytical research team. Schroeder was a member of the team analyzing and describing the skull of the new hominin while working toward her doctoral degree at the University of Cape Town.
