BUFFALO, N.Y. — Mark J. Sinnett BS ’83, PharmD ’87 is a recipient of a 2023 University at Buffalo Distinguished Alumni Award. This award is given to alumni who have made a significant impact on the university at-large and also to the programs and students at the UB School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPPS).

Mark J. Sinnett BS ’83, PharmD ’87.

A natural leader and mentor, Sinnett has spent the last 35+ years at Montefiore Medical Center in his role as director of clinical and educational pharmacy services and was director of the PGY1 pharmacy residency program for almost 25 years. He leads and inspires a team of highly dedicated professionals and numerous residents during the year and plays a critical role in placing fourth year PharmD students from UB at Montefiore. At Montefiore he also co-directs the Center for Pharmacotherapy Research and participates in many committees and center initiatives.

As an adjunct UB SPPS faculty member, Sinnett helped create a unique longitudinal advanced professional practice experience (APPE) rotation for UB SPPS students interested in a high-impact hospital rotation with diverse patient populations; dozens of UB PharmD students have participated in this unique hospital-based rotation.

He co-chairs the Institutional Review Boards (IRB) for both BRANY (Biomedical Research Alliance of New York) and Montefiore Medical Center. He served as president of the New York State Council of Health-System Pharmacists in 2012. He is active with the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), having served with the Council for Education and Workforce Development, the Commission on Credentialing and the Council on Therapeutics and as a ASHP guest surveyor for PGY1 pharmacy residency accreditation.

To further support the profession of pharmacy, Sinnett and his wife Merrette created the Mark J. Sinnett Scholarship, an endowed fund to help support PharmD students in need and who also demonstrate interest in outcomes-based research.

“Buffalo gave me everything I needed to succeed,” Sinnett remembers. “I am truly honored to be receiving this recognition from UB and the pharmacy school – it means so much to me.”

Sinnett will receive this award at the University at Buffalo Alumni Association Achievement Awards Ceremony on October 12. See here for full list of all UB award winners.
