Dr. Saxon Graham Epidemiology and Environmental Health Student Award

Portrait of Dr. Saxon Graham.

This award recognizes promising doctoral students who are pursuing a PhD in the field of epidemiology.

Given by the chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health, the fund supports research activities that are conducted as part of a doctoral dissertation. Specifically, it includes a cash award to a graduating student for the best dissertation, and a research award given to a student to further their doctoral research.

Eligible students are candidates in the PhD in epidemiology degree program. Awarded funds may be applied towards research activities such as participant recruitment, clinical specimen analysis, travel to meet with collaborators, etc.

The fund was established by multiple donors in honor of the late Saxon Graham, PhD, who was chair of the Department of Social and Preventive Medicine (currently known as the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health) from 1981-1991 and a leader in the field of nutritional epidemiology. His work on diet and cancer was instrumental in our growing understanding of what causes cancer and its prevention.
