Colleagues:

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Department of Materials Design and Innovation (MDI), a collaborative effort between the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the College of Arts and Sciences.  MDI leverages UB’s faculty strengths in materials science, engineering, and informatics to meet regional and national demands for accelerated materials’ discovery and development.  It will provide our faculty and students with rewarding new research and learning opportunities, train future materials scientists, and offer new opportunities for partnerships.

MDI has emerged out of our UB 2020 aspiration to pursue innovative interdisciplinary research and engagement that respond to the problems and needs of our local and global communities.  It is a direct outgrowth of a successful E Fund proposal.

There is an ongoing search for a world-class scholar and researcher to fill the Erich Bloch Endowed Chair and lead the department.

For more information, see the Reporter story announcing the department launch.
