Medical Billing and Coding Specialist
Medical records specialists compile, process, and maintain patient files. They also may classify and enter patients’ medical information into the healthcare industry's numerical coding system.

You will learn the basics of Medical Billing & Coding procedures including:
- Anatomy/Physiology
- Microbiology
- Patient Billing Computer Medisoft
- Patient to Payment
- Step by step medical coding
- International Classification of Disease (ICD9)
- International Classification of Disease (ICD10)
- Current Procedural Terminology
- HCPCS (Healthcare Common Procedural Coding System)
- Insurance Procedures

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, Medical Records Specialists can expect a median annual wage of $47,270, or $22.73 per hour.
Upon successful completion, students earn:
- Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center Certificate of Completion
- Certified Billing & Coding Specialist (CBCS) from National Healthcareer Association
- Customer Service from NRF

Before you start this class, you must:
- Meet minimum TABE Reading (550) and Math (536) scores
- Attend a program information session
- Complete the Allied Health Customer Service (AH-CS) Program
