The State University's commitment to serve underprepared students more extensively resulted in the creation in 1966, of four Urban Centers. The Centers, located in Brooklyn, Manhattan, Albany, and Buffalo, were funded by the Governor and the New York State Legislature, to provide occupational training and college preparatory programs.

UBEOC offers year round academic support to adult learners in Western New York. Our instructors are dedicated to providing hands-on learning in small classrooms. Learn more about our programs here.

New York State has selected a new high school equivalency test called the Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) to replace the General Educational Development (GED).

At UBEOC, the classroom is just a starting point. Our students receive a full range of career services to prepare for internships and job placement. Find out how you can earn at starting salary of $30,000 or more by completing one of our vocational trainings. 

Counselors provide academic advisement and personal and group counseling to help students gain skills necessary to complete programs and obtain employment and/or college placement. All students are assigned to a counselor at the time of registration. The counselor’s name is printed on the student’s schedule. When do classes start?

Class schedules vary by program and by academic quarter. Our high school equivalency/TASC program is offered every quarter and in the summer. Please contact the Admissions Office at 645-1900 for more details.

How much does it cost to attend UBEOC?

All programs and trainings are tuition-free!

How do I know if I qualify for UBEOC?

UBEOC students must be NYS residents and meet our income guidelines.

How do I sign up for the TASC exam?

Students must complete the HSE program or an HSE boot camp in order to apply for the TASC exam.

How long does it take to process my application?

You will receive a decision on your application within 7-10 days after submitting all of the required documents.
