Family

As a family member, we know that your student's success in their career and life is very important. It’s important to us too; that's why we created this guide.

How to Talk About Life After College

Caution: You may cringe when you hear the words...

“I want to change my major”
“I’m not sure what I want to do for the rest of my life.”

Your first reaction might be to encourage your student to stick with their first career decision. In reality, that may actually hinder their growth toward a career path that fits them. We recommend starting with a conversation.

Balancing Work and an Internship

While internships are not required, they are strongly encouraged. With careful planning, your student can make money for college and get experience for the future. If your student is unable to get a relevant part-time job or internship, they could volunteer at an organization to get experience. Summer is also a great time to do an internship. Please encourage your student to check out Bullseye powered by Handshake, the ultimate job or internship spot. There, they can find part-time jobs and internships, and schedule an appointment with a career counselor to help with this challenge.
