Resources and Support for Faculty

As a research university, we recognize faculty mentorship as central to this experience and partner with faculty to expand opportunities, connect students with meaningful projects, and strengthen a shared culture of inquiry.

Faculty developing grants that include undergraduate researchers can work with the Office for Undergraduate Research for practical support.

We can:

• Provide letters of support for applications involving undergraduate researchers.
• Connect you with interested undergraduate students through the research opportunities list, where you can post projects and identify potential collaborators.
• Demonstrate the institution’s commitment to undergraduate research and broadening the disciplinary range of opportunities, which can help answer questions about sustainability or the lasting impact of external or internal funding.

These supports help faculty integrate undergraduate participation into research initiatives—from early project development through funded work.

The Office for Undergraduate Research seeks to build a community of practice for faculty mentors and campus partners who support undergraduate research.

Through workshops, conversations and collaborative initiatives, this community will share best practices and support one another in building an inclusive community of undergraduate researchers across all students and disciplines. Together, these efforts will strengthen the culture of faculty-mentored research at UB.

The Office for Undergraduate Research is developing resources to support faculty mentorship of undergraduate researchers. These materials will include guidance, tools and examples that help faculty:

• Integrate undergraduate researchers into ongoing projects.
• Support student learning through mentored inquiry.
• Foster reflective practice and skill development.
• Share effective strategies with colleagues across disciplines.
