Donation ideas for spring cleaning

Published April 15, 2026

It’s April, and time for that annual chore: spring cleaning. Erin E. Moscati, zero waste manager with UB Sustainability, offers some on-campus donation opportunitiesS for members of the UB community who are tackling that annual task — or just looking to declutter.

Sporting equipment collection

UB student-athletes have partnered with Leveling the Playing Field to run a collection drive. Clean out your garages and basements of gently used sporting equipment and help ensure all kids have the opportunity to play sports.

Donations can be made through April 20; look for the Leveling the Playing Field dropbox in the main lobby of Broadview Arena, near the ticket office. Both gently used and new items are appreciated.

Used textiles

Clean, dry clothing can be donated via the red Hearts for the Homeless bins located across campus any time of year. Find a convenient location.

Professional clothing

Do you have a blazer, suit or tie that you no longer wear?  Donate it to Hired and help UB students put their best foot forward at upcoming job interviews. Learn more about accepted items and how to donate.

Miscellaneous small items

Your “trash” could be someone else’s treasure. UB’s Care to Share cart is the perfect opportunity for employees to share items with students.

Anyone looking to responsibly dispose of other materials can visit UB’s recycling website or reach out to Moscati directly for assistance.
