Jacobs launches presidential search

UB Council Chair Jeremy M. Jacobs Jr. has launched the search for UB’s next president.

“It is a privilege to lead this effort on behalf of our university community,” Jacobs said Tuesday in an email message to the UB community, noting that the search for a successor to President Satish K. Tripathi “will be among the most important endeavors our university undertakes over the course of this academic year.”

Jacobs, who will serve as chair of the search committee, said that in accordance with SUNY guidelines, the committee will be composed of a diverse group of stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni and community representatives.

UB faculty and staff will soon receive invitations from their respective governance groups inviting them to nominate themselves or a colleague. Elected members of UB student organizations will represent undergraduate and graduate students.

In addition, a series of listening sessions will be held later this semester, during which members of the university community can offer input on the qualities and qualifications they would like to see in UB’s next president.

“Your input will be invaluable as we develop the leadership profile and will provide a guidepost for the committee’s work,” Jacobs said.

Throughout the search process, a search website will serve as the primary source for information and updates as the search progresses. The website will feature an overview of the search process and timeline.

Tripathi announced on Sept. 23 that he would step down as UB’s 15th president in July 2026 and return to his faculty role in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
