Venu Govindaraju, vice president for research and economic development, has been named senior vice president for research, innovation and economic development.
Govindaraju’s expanded role reflects UB’s commitment to advance AI and other emerging fields across UB’s research, education and operations domains, President Satish K. Tripathi said in announcing Govindaraju’s new leadership position.
“As senior vice president, Venu will help strengthen UB’s impact in these areas, assuring UB’s place among the top 10 U.S. universities in leadership in AI and other emerging fields,” Tripathi said. Govindaraju will work with UB’s campus partners to elevate the university’s excellence in AI across its mission-driven priorities, as well as serve as the nexus and spokesperson for UB’s AI and related research, education and operations initiatives.
He also will champion philanthropic and advocacy efforts for UB’s AI and related programs, as well as other emerging fields.
“As a longtime champion of multidisciplinary scientific collaboration, discovery and innovation, I’m incredibly excited to serve the University at Buffalo in this expanded capacity and provide campuswide leadership in emerging technologies," Govindaraju said.
"UB’s commitment to the integration of evolving fields such as AI and Quantum throughout integral university activities such as research, education and operations is extraordinary, and it will continue to grow as we discover new technological solutions that solve pressing societal challenges.”
