Seven kayaks are available for use on Lake LaSalle by professional staff and faculty, free of charge, thanks to the work of the Professional Staff Senate’s Sustainable Living and Recreation and Wellness committees.

The kayaks will be dedicated at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 22. Faculty and staff are invited to attend the brief ceremony at the Outdoor Pursuits boat dock on Lake LaSalle between UB Commons and the Center for the Arts, and then take a kayak out for a spin.

UB food trucks are expected to be on hand, and attendees can also bring their lunch or purchase food from vendors in the Student Union and UB Commons.

Those wishing to rent a PSS kayak must present their UB ID card to reserve the kayak, paddles and life vests.

After Aug. 22, kayaks can be rented free of charge in accordance with Outdoor Pursuits’ regular hours and guidelines.

The PSS also is having a contest to name the kayaks. Staff can submit up to seven names to Vice Chair Tim Tryjankowski by 3 p.m. Aug. 17.

A group of PSS committee members will select the winning names and announce them during the dedication ceremony. Prizes will be awarded for the winning entries.
