The Global Pathways encourage sustained engagement with the world and its cultures, languages, societies, people, and histories to develop global perspectives and cultural literacies, and to encourage personal reflection on the earth's diversity. You may opt for one of three tracks: global reflections, language and culture, or international experience.
Global Reflections
Three courses of at least three credits each, each selected for its international or global focus.
Language and Culture
The study of foreign language and culture cultivates multiple literacies (linguistic, literary, social/interpersonal, and cultural), helps students to rise to the challenges of a globally competitive environment, and equips them to communicate and collaborate within diverse groups internationally and at home. Through sustained contact with other cultures, students learn to read and respond to unfamiliar surroundings, become comfortable with ambiguity and difference, and navigate global environments.
International Experience
Study abroad offers a world of opportunities for learning and personal development. It broadens horizons and provides unique experiences with transformative impact. Students looking to fulfill the International Experience track must complete a UB-approved study abroad program. Students who take a three-credit winter session study abroad program will, in the semester immediately before or after travel, and with the approval of the Office of General Education, supplement these credits with at least six credits of coursework from either the Global Reflections or the Language and Culture tracks. This work must be integrated in a clearly identifiable manner with the work from the study abroad program and satisfy the learning outcomes of the Global Pathway.
