Partnership with the American Heart Association allows UB Recreation to offer CPR, AED, and First Aid training to the UB community and the general public.

Our Classes

  • Available course dates and times can be found on the registration forms.
  • Class times may vary. Please review your registered course date and time carefully.
  • Classes are limited to 10 participants.
  • Advance registration is required. Walk-ins will not be accepted.
  • All training classes will be held in the CPR Room, 105 Clark Hall.

Basic Life Support (BLS)

For the Healthcare Provider. Designed for those preparing to enter the medical field, the BLS Course provides the essential skills needed to respond confidently in emergency situations.

Participants will learn high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants, how to respond to choking emergencies, and how to work effectively as part of a rescue team. This hands-on training helps build the knowledge and confidence needed to provide lifesaving care in professional and community settings.

Heartsaver

For the Layperson. Whether you are preparing for a future career or simply want to build lifesaving skills, the Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED course gives you the knowledge and confidence to respond in emergency situations.

This course is designed to help participants recognize and respond to early signs of illness and injury while learning essential first aid, CPR, and AED skills. Participants will gain hands-on experience with CPR for adults, children, and infants, responding to choking emergencies, identifying heart attack and stroke symptoms, and using protective barriers and AED equipment.

More than just a certification course, this training helps you build practical skills that can make a difference both on campus and in your community.

First Aid Only

First Aid Only. This course provides participants with practical skills and knowledge to recognize and respond to common emergency situations.

Pediatric First Aid* training is available by appointment only and is designed for individuals who work with or care for children, including child care providers, camp counselors, foster parents, teachers, coaches, and anyone responsible for responding to first aid emergencies involving children. This course expands on standard Heartsaver First Aid training by focusing on pediatric-specific emergency response skills and meets many workplace certification requirements.

Policies & Procedures

Directions

Classes are held in 105 Clark Hall on UB’s South Campus.

  • Take Main Street (US 5) to Bailey Ave and turn south.
  • With UB campus on your right, turn right at the Sherman Road entrance and proceed to the Diefendorf Lot.
  • Clark Hall is the grey stone building next to the parking lot.
  • Enter the building through the CPR door (which faces the VA Hospital.)

Parking

Parking passes are needed during business hours.

  • Park in the Diefendorf Lot.
  • The instructor will give you a temporary pass upon arrival for your vehicle's rear-view mirror.

Refunds

  • Emergencies with valid documentation qualify for refunds.
  • Missing class without valid documentation or rescheduling forfeits full fee.

Cancelation/No Show

Course registration guarantees your spot for the selected date.

  • Only documented emergencies (illness, family death) allow cancelations.
  • We help you reschedule if you can't attend the original date.

Low Enrollment/Emergency Cancelation

  • We may cancel classes due to low enrollment, weather, illness, or emergencies.
    • In such cases, we'll email you.
    • Pre-registered participants in canceled classes get priority for the next one, or a refund.
    • Weather-related cancelations align with University at Buffalo closures.

Become a CPR Instructor

This opportunity allows you to build leadership, communication, and teaching skills while helping others gain lifesaving knowledge and confidence. CPR Instructors lead BLS courses, demonstrate essential emergency response skills, and create an engaging learning environment for participants.

Previous teaching experience is helpful but not required. Comprehensive training is provided to prepare instructors for success.
