Entity/Hierarchy System

The Entity/Hierarchy system is the official campus system of record to identify operating elements used by the institution to support its operations.  Operating elements include items such as student majors, course subjects, administrative offices and research centers.  Each item is assigned a unique 4 digit numeric code to support identification across university systems as well as a 10 digit code to support sorting within an organized framework.

Your Unit Business Officer (UBO) will be notified to approve all change requests prior to implementation.

Entity/Hierarchy and HUB Requests

The Office of Institutional Analysis (OIA) is moving to TeamDynamix for all Entity/Hierarchy and HUB change requests.  Effective July 20, 2026, such requests must be submitted to OIA through the TeamDynamix platform. We encourage you to explore the features of our new service page linked below.

    Entity Abbreviations Viewer allows units to review which Entity Abbreviations are already in use prior to submitting a new Entity Request Form. Source data are refreshed nightly.

    Entity Change Report delivers a dynamic representation changes to UB’s official organizational structure. Filters can be used to look for specific changes over a specified period of time. Source data are refreshed nightly.
  • Hub Plan Viewer
    3/13/25
    Hub Plan Viewer documents all Plans and Subplans with filter options at most organizational levels. Source data are refreshed nightly.
