BUFFALO, N.Y. — The University at Buffalo Educational Opportunity Center (UBEOC) will introduce its new branding logo at its Community Partners Breakfast.

When: 8-9:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 1.

Where: UBEOC, 555 Ellicott St., in downtown Buffalo.

What: The Community Partners Breakfast brings together UBEOC administrators, teachers, staff and students with the organization’s partners, both from the community and the university.

On the program: Besides unveiling the new logo and its branding campaign, UBEOC officials will introduce the community to its renewed partnership with the New York State Education Department, via the local Regional Adult Education Network. UBEOC administrators will also discuss its involvement with the newly organized Western New York High School Equivalency Network.

What is special about UBEOC: The UBEOC is a dynamic learning community dedicated to meet the educational and vocational needs of economically and academically disadvantaged persons. Known for what it calls “redemption stories” of its students, the center delivers comprehensive community-based academic and workforce development programs, wraparound supportive and linkage services and access to further education and employment. The UBEOC provides educational and growth experiences that empower students to realize their dreams and turn efforts into achievements.

Residents of the surrounding Buffalo community receive a range of tuition-free courses and services designed to develop the academic and workforce skills necessary to become self-sufficient, often dramatically elevating the arc of their lives with new occupations and transformed possibilities of independent and accomplished careers

Guests and speakers: Scheduled to speak at the breakfast are New York State Assembly Majority Leader Crystal Peoples-Stokes and City of Buffalo Deputy Mayor Ellen Grant. Also scheduled to speak are Paula Oliver, registered medical assistant, UBEOC graduate Class of 2004 and winner of the organization’s Arthur O. Eve Education and Community Service Award; and Oblamaka “Obi” Alaku, presently enrolled in the organization’s central sterilization technician program.

Julius Gregg Adams, executive director of the UBEOC, will give an update and the program’s closing remarks.

“Each year we reach out to the community in hopes of informing them of the incredible services and programs that the Buffalo EOC offers, as well as asking them is there more that we can do,” says Adams. “We are excited about what the future holds for our students and our center.”

Other topics on the program: UBEOC officials will discuss new programming in pre-advanced manufacturing and security guard training.
