    Two researchers in the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences have received federal grants totaling more than $640,000 to conduct research into the function and development of the human vision system.

  • Donated Electric Cars to Help UB Reduce Pollution, Cut Costs

    The University at Buffalo has received a donation of 10 zero-emission electric cars that are expected to reduce pollution on campus, as well as cut operating costs. The Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) are among 130 donated to the State University of New York as a joint effort of the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and Global Electric Motorcars LLC, a division of DaimlerChrysler.
  • Social Anxiety Disorder Affects Up to 15 Percent of Children, Yet Often Goes Undiagnosed and Untreated

    Five to 15 percent of children and adolescents in the United States suffer from a dangerous and disabling emotional disorder that poses a serious impediment to their social, educational and emotional development. It is social anxiety disorder (SAD), a condition that, according to a researcher at the University at Buffalo, is seldom researched, recognized or treated although it is one of the most prevalent and disabling mental disorders of childhood and adolescence.

    Michel Bruneau, Ph.D., a leading expert on earthquake-resistant design and retrofit of buildings and infrastructure, has been named director of the Multidisciplinary Center for Earthquake Engineering Research (MCEER) headquartered at the University at Buffalo. MCEER is a National Science Foundation "Center of Excellence" in earthquake engineering.
  • Antwone Fisher to Kick Off UB Distinguished Speakers Series

    The 2003-04 Distinguished Speakers Series at the University at Buffalo will feature Antwone Fisher, author and Hollywood producer and screenwriter; UB alumnus, Kenmore native and CNN news anchor Wolf Blitzer; comedian and author Bill Cosby; Lockport native and acclaimed author Joyce Carol Oates, and Buffalo-born journalist Tim Russert.

    UB's Service Excellence Program began 15 years ago as a way of insuring that staffers in University Services were not losing sight of the unit's mission. Today Service Excellence, which recognizes staff for providing and improving services, has grown to include Student Affairs, Athletics and the Office of the Chief Information Officer.
