The microbiome and its influence on periodontal disease and infections during cancer treatments; oral problems and systemic diseases

Patricia Diaz is a leader in the study of the human microbiome and aims to understand inter-species interactions in oral microbial communities that affect oral inflammation. 

Her goal is to develop tools to manipulate the microbiome to interfere with disease development. She and her team are particularly interested in understanding the significance of the microbiome as a mediator of susceptibility to oral comorbidities of cancer treatment and as an essential trigger in periodontal disease.

Diaz can speak to the media regarding the microbiome and its influence on periodontal disease and infections during cancer treatments, as well as oral problems and their relationship to systemic diseases.
