Mental health, including depression and anxiety, of children/adolescents/adults with cystic fibrosis and other chronic illnesses
Beth Smith can talk to the media about the importance of integrating mental health screening and treatment into routine care for individuals with cystic fibrosis and other chronic diseases. An international expert in the mental health of individuals with cystic fibrosis, she has coauthored international guidelines on depression and anxiety in patients with the disease. Smith can discuss her research into depression/anxiety, interactions between new treatments and mental health, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other key psychiatric issues in cystic fibrosis patients, as well as the development and evaluation of psychiatric therapies for these patients.
Smith is the founding chair of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Mental Health Advisory Committee. She also serves as president of UBMD Psychiatry and chief of behavioral health for Kaleida Health.
